Aung San Suu Kyi, St Hugh’s Alumna, ushers in new democratic era

Following an historic election victory in November 2015, Aung San Suu Kyi will today see her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), take their seats in Myanmar’s parliament. This will be the first democratically elected government to have formed in Burma in over 25 years, marking an end to a prolonged period of military rule and signalling the beginning of a new era in Burmese politics.
