To book a degree ceremony please email the College Office specifying which degree ceremony you would like to attend. You will be sent a Degree Ceremony Application form which must be completed and returned to the College Office. An email will be sent to you to confirm whether you have a place.
If you have a confirmed place a graduation programme will be emailed to you two months before your graduation ceremony. The graduation programme will include advice on how to order your graduation gowns. Please ensure you keep the College Office updated on any changes to your email address.
If you are no longer able to attend your Degree Ceremony you must email the College Office to confirm you are cancelling your reservation. This must be at least 15 days before the date of the ceremony. If you do not attend your Degree Ceremony, and you do not cancel your reservation, you will automatically graduate in absentia (in absence) and will not be eligible to attend another Degree Ceremony for the same degree.
Booking to graduate in absentia
If you would prefer to graduate in absentia please email the College Office for a Degree Ceremony Application form. Once you have completed and returned this form you will be added to the University's next Degree Ceremony. Your degree certificate will be posted via recorded delivery to the address you specify on your application form. Please ensure you use an address where someone will be available to sign for your certificate.
The next Degree Ceremony to graduate in absentia is: 9th June 2012.
The Oxford Master of Arts
The Oxford Master of Arts is about reaching a new status within the University. In Oxford (as in Cambridge), and following longstanding tradition, the status of Master of Arts is a mark of seniority within the University. Please note the Oxford Master of Arts has no subject or class and is not an upgrade of your BA or an additional qualification.
Students who have graduated with a BA or BFA degree are eligible to receive the Oxford Master of Arts twenty-one terms after their matriculation date for a fee of £25. If you would like to graduate with the Oxford Master of Arts you may do so in person or in absentia. This is not an automatic process and so please follow the relevant sections of this page in order to book your Degree Ceremony. If a Bachelor of Civil Law or a Bachelor of Medicine shall first have been admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, he or she may supplicate for the Degree of Master of Arts with the approval of his or her society in or after the nineteenth term from matriculation, and may retain the Degree of Bachelor of Civil Law or of Medicine, as the case may be.
Changes in graduation arrangements from 2013
Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who complete their course and receive their examination results after June 2013 will be assigned a date for their degree ceremony at the start of Michaelmas term of their final year. For example, if your course finishes in June, July or September 2013, you will be assigned a date in October 2012 for your degree ceremony in 2013 or 2014. Research students who are granted leave to supplicate after June 2013 will be offered dates for their degree ceremony once they have been granted leave to supplicate.
