
The University of Oxford China Centre Art Auction with Sotheby's
The University of Oxford China Centre at St Hugh’s College will be the beneficiary of a charity auction in Hong Kong on 4 October, arranged in collaboration with Sotheby’s Hong Kong.
To celebrate the charity auction and allow for a viewing of the donated artwork, a cocktail reception has been arranged by Sotheby’s for friends and alumni of Oxford on Friday 30 September, 6.30pm – 8.30pm at Hall 3 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre New Wing, 1 Expo Drive, Wanchai.
Featuring works from the Liao Dynasty to the modern period, the auction includes 30 select items donated by friends and alumni of the University, coordinated by Edwin Mok, an Oxford law graduate. The artworks range from fine Chinese ceramics and works of art, Chinese paintings, Chinese and European furniture, silverware and textiles with the highlight being An Imperial Yellow Satin Embroidered “Dragon” Robe, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period. The Oxford China Centre will be important new facet of Oxford’s long standing relationship with China, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to the study of China and drawing together academics in the areas of Chinese art, business and economics, ancient history, literature, public health, language, rural development, the environment and energy issues.
