125th Anniversary

Our 125th Anniversary in 2011 is a time of opportunity: a chance to celebrate the extraordinary story of this institution; an occasion for reflection on what our experiences of St Hugh’s have meant to us; and a moment in time to consider ways we can best move forward during this period of unprecedented change.

125th Anniversary Appeal

From October next year, St Hugh’s has been educating for 125 years.  We should all be proud of how much has been achieved since 1886 and now, with this special anniversary fast approaching, we look to the future and consider how we can meet the challenges that lie ahead to ensure that future generations of students continue to benefit from the kind of education St Hugh’s has been providing for the last 125 years.

Throughout our history, Senior Members and friends of College have made benefactions and you continue to play a critical role in supporting our aims by choosing to donate to the Annual Fund. We understand that personal circumstances vary and so the focus of our appeal this year is not on asking you to donate a specific amount, rather, our goal for the 125th anniversary year is to achieve a 25% participation rate in our annual fundraising programme.

Over the last five years, our annual participation rate has increased from 6% to 18.5%.  We are proud of these figures and grateful for your continued generosity and support, but as we approach this milestone we know that we need to take the opportunity that this anniversary offers us and to raise our aspirations once more. With this goal in mind, a donation of any size will be of enormous value and will help us create a long term culture of supporting College that will benefit generations to come.  We are confident that we can achieve this goal, with your help.

We ask that all donations are given to meet one of the three most pressing funding challenges ahead: to preserve the Tutorial System, the foundation of the Oxbridge experience; to attract the brightest students whatever their background and support them at the beginning of their adult lives; and to ensure our historic buildings and special grounds are fit for purpose.

St Hugh’s has a remarkable past and we can all contribute to creating an inspiring future.  As we approach this landmark anniversary year, I want to ask you now to join me in celebrating by making a difference: please make a gift to the Annual Fund to support the area of College life that has most meaning for you.
