The Association of Senior Members

The Association of Senior Members

Membership

The Association of Senior Members (ASM) is made up of everyone who has ever matriculated from St Hugh's, studied at St Hugh's for a postgraduate degree or diploma or been a member of the Middle Common Room. The Principal and Fellows are also Life Members of the Association which has been in existence since 1928.

Aims

The ASM works alongside the Development Office and in close collaboration with it. Its aim is to promote continuing contact amongst Senior Members and with College drawing on a shared experience of friendship and scholarly adventure first encountered as students at St Hugh's.

Activities

The ASM edits the annual Chronicle recording life in College and news of Senior Members; is involved in the arrangements for the annual Gaudy dinner; and from time to time organises Colloquia on topics of particular interest to Senior Members.  It also runs the Regional Network which enables Senior Members to meet one another in the area in which they live.  Other recent projects have included the St Hugh's College Register 1886-1959, edited by Ann Soutter with Mary Clapinson, which can be bought from our Online Shop.  Its Annual General Meeting is held each year as part of the College Garden Party.

A small Committee of ASM Members meets regularly to plan these events. The Principal appoints the Governing Body Representative on the Committee.

The current President is Sue Brown, the Hon Secretary is Joan Swindells (Tel: 01993 775207) and the Chronicle Editor is Gianetta Corley.

We welcome ideas from Senior Members on useful initiatives the ASM might take and all offers of help.
