With great sadness we must report that St Hugh’s Emeritus Fellow Professor David Robertson has died.
David was a gifted academic and first took up a Fellowship at St Hugh’s in 1979.
He wrote many books over the course of his career including the Penguin Dictionary of Politics, Judicial Discretion in the House of Lords, and The Judge as Political Theorist: Contemporary Constitutional Review.
Prior to his time at Oxford he was involved with the renowned British Election Study at the University of Essex. During his ten years in Essex he produced two monographs and co-edited a major study on ideological competition between parties in fourteen countries.
He continued writing well into his retirement.
Although he was not able to attend the marriage of his beloved daughter Ellen last Saturday, he remained conscious long enough to learn that the ceremony had taken place and had been a wonderful occasion.
He passed away in the early hours on Thursday 10th August 2017.
The funeral will take place at Blackfriars, Oxford at 1 pm on Monday 4th September and it will be followed by a reception in the Mordan Hall at St Hugh’s College.
