Freedom of Speech

At St Hugh’s we believe that free speech provides the bedrock for innovation and academic endeavour. As such, we welcome open discussion and peaceful protest, and we do not tolerate the shutting down of debate or the infringement of an individual’s right to express themselves. Equally, we do not tolerate unlawful speech, such as that inciting violence, or speech that causes harassment.  Policies relating to Freedom of Speech are included below:

COLLEGE POLICY ON FREEDOM OF SPEECH

UNIVERSITY POLICY ON FREEDOM OF SPEECH

OFFICE FOR STUDENTS’ GUIDANCE

EQUALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION GUIDANCE
