Join us for an academic lecture, with Dr David Taylor entitled “A Shakespearean History of the Political Cartoon”, in Mordan Hall at 6pm followed by a drinks reception at 7pm.
Dr Taylor is the author of Theatres of Opposition: Empire, Revolution, and Richard Brinsley Sheridan (OUP, 2012) and The Politics of Parody: A Literary History of Caricature, 1760-1830 (Yale UP, 2018), and the co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of the Georgian Theatre (OUP, 2014). In 2017, he curated the Royal Shakespeare Company exhibition “Draw New Mischief: 250 Years of Shakespeare and Political Cartoons”. Before joining St. Hugh’s in 2018, he taught at the Universities of Toronto and Warwick. In 2013, he was awarded the Polanyi Prize for Literature by the Government of Ontario.
