College Gardener

Grade 2 (Oxford Living Wage)

Salary: £24,356 per annum,

37.5 hours per week

St Hugh’s College is seeking a Gardener to join the College’s friendly Gardens team on a permanent basis. The job holder will carry out work within the Gardens department which sits within the Estates department. The Gardens team are responsible for the College’s 14.5-acre gardens under the direction of the Head Gardener.

Duties will include various maintenance of lawns: mowing, irrigation, feeding, selective weed-killing, edging, scarification, top dressing, spiking, rolling, turf lifting/laying, grass seeding and leaf sweeping; maintenance of borders: division/replanting of herbaceous stock, transplanting, pruning and general care of all plants; composting: helping to implement improvements to the storage and recycling of green waste. There will also be a requirement to operate College machinery and tools as directed by your line manager in accordance with the appropriate risk assessments, and ensure all machinery and tools are adequately cleaned at the end of each day.

Applicants should be able to present a positive and helpful attitude, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Recognised qualifications i.e., NVQ level 2 or similar qualification and a PA1 and PA6 safe use of pesticides are essential.
