The Lecture
Arthur Snell will present a special lecture on Navigating the Age of Chaos. Arthur served a variety of roles within the UK Government, including as the British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago from 2011 until 2014. This talk promises to be a fascinating insight into a rapidly changing world, as well as providing expertise on navigating the chaos. Our Speaker
Arthur Snell studied History at Magdalen College, after which, he spent two decades in the Foreign Office where he served in a range of challenging environments including Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. In 2007 he was appointed Assistant Director for Counter-Terrorism at the Foreign Office, with responsibility for worldwide countering violent extremism (CVE) programmes. From 2010 – 2014 he was Britain’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, based in Port of Spain.
Since leaving the diplomatic service he has combined a career in consultancy with writing and other media work. He is the host of the geopolitics podcast Behind the Lines and an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) think-tank. In 2022 he published his first book, How Britain Broke the World, a history of British foreign policy from 1997 – 2022. He is currently writing Elemental, an account of the geopolitics of climate change, to be published in the UK in 2026 by Wildfire and in numerous other languages worldwide.
