News of the Passing of St Hugh’s Staff Member and Friend, Damien Turner

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our Lodge Porter, Damien Turner, died in hospital on the evening of Friday 14 March after a short illness.

Damien joined St Hugh’s in 2018 and worked in the Estates and then Lodge teams. St Hugh’s Principal, Lady Elish said, ‘He was an exceptional colleague who was known, respected, and deeply liked by students, staff, and academics across the College. His friendliness, helpfulness, and unfailing humanity were a credit to the College, and shaped countless members’ and visitors’ experience of St Hugh’s; but I was equally aware of his wisdom and calm behind the scenes in dealing with a host of serious and confidential issues where members of College needed help and support.

‘Damien’s death is a tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his partner Hannah, their children, and to all his family.’

There is a book of condolence available at The Lodge for those who would like to express their written condolences. It will remain there until after Trinity term commences to give those who are currently away from College, time to contribute on their return.

This post will be updated with news on further arrangements in due course.
