St Hugh’s Chefs crowned Oxford Guild of Chefs Five-a-Side champions

St Hugh’s chefs have been crowned champions of the annual City of Oxford Guild of Chefs Five-a-Side Football tournament, following an impressive unbeaten run at Iffley Road Sports Centre on Sunday 4 October.

Led by Assistant Catering Manager and Team Captain Ervist Sheh, the St Hugh’s side faced strong competition from catering teams across Oxford’s hospitality and culinary sector.

The tournament began in emphatic fashion with a 7-0 victory over Queen’s College, giving the team confidence and momentum heading into their second match against Ripon. A much tighter contest followed, but St Hugh’s showed resilience and determination to secure a 2-1 win and book their place in the final against St Edmund Hall. In the championship match, the team delivered another outstanding performance, securing a 4-0 victory to lift the trophy.

Across the three matches, St Hugh’s scored an impressive 13 goals while conceding just one, underlining the team’s strength in both attack and defence.

Team Captain, Ervist Sheh said, ‘It was a fantastic day of football with a competitive but friendly atmosphere. I’m incredibly proud of the whole squad. Everyone worked hard for each other, kept the energy up throughout the day, and played some excellent football. Winning the tournament with two clean sheets and conceding only one goal shows how strong we were as a team. It’s a great feeling to bring the trophy back to St Hugh’s.”

The City of Oxford Guild of Chefs, established in 1968, is a voluntary organisation of professional chefs dedicated to championing the region’s culinary talent and vibrant hospitality industry.
