St Hugh’s Finalist receives two awards for exceptional academic performance

Congratulations to St Hugh’s Finalist, Sophie Harrison (Modern Languages, 2022) who has received not one but two prizes for her exceptional academic performance. Sophie has been awarded both the 2026 Paul McClean Prize for the best performance by a candidate offering French as a sole language within the whole University, as well as the 2026 Gibbs Prize for best performance in all Modern Languages at Oxford this year.

St Hugh’s Tutorial Fellow in French, Professor Ève Morisi said, ‘Sophie’s genuinely exceptional results as a student of French/Modern Languages were to be expected from the start of her studies here in 2022. During her four years at St Hugh’s, I witnessed nothing but stellar analytical and writing skills combined with a profound sense of intellectual curiosity and impeccable rigour, as well as an ability to work extremely hard, with great humility and independence. I am absolutely thrilled that she has received the recognition she deserves.’
