Biography
Rahil Valani is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Physics at St Hugh’s College, and a Leverhulme-Peierls Fellow at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford.
Rahil completed a double-degree for his undergraduate studies, bachelor of aerospace engineering (first class honours) and a bachelor of science, at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He then went on to pursue a PhD in physics from Monash University, Australia. Following his PhD, Rahil was a postdoctoral researcher in applied mathematics at the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia. Since April 2024, Rahil has been working as a Leverhulme-Peierls Fellow at the University of Oxford and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Physics at St Hugh’s College.
Research
Rahil is broadly interested in mathematical modelling of various physical and biological phenomena. His specific interests are in the areas of active matter, nonlinear dynamics & chaos and fluid dynamics. He is currently working on multiple research projects such as developing active matter models to understand collective behaviours of biological cells, dynamics of active particles and active matter in channels, synchronisation of oscillators near bifurcations, and understanding dynamical mechanisms for the emergence of hydrodynamic quantum analogs in models of walking and superwalking droplets.
