St Hugh’s was delighted to welcome more than 100 alumni back to College on Saturday 19 September for a special dinner during Oxford’s Meeting Minds weekend. Guests spanned more than seven decades of St Hugh’s history, from those who matriculated in the 1950s to recent graduates of the 2020s. While some travelled from nearby Oxfordshire, others journeyed from across the globe, including Europe, the USA, the UAE, China and Singapore.
The occasion reflected the breadth and diversity of the St Hugh’s alumni community. Alumni working across a wide range of sectors, including science, business, politics, education and the arts, were represented at the dinner highlighting the varied paths and achievements of St Hugh’s graduates.
For many guests, the evening provided a welcome opportunity to reconnect with old friends, celebrate milestones and anniversaries, and share memories of their time at the College. Conversations continued long into the night as alumni reflected on the experiences and friendships that connect generations of St Hugh’s students.
Guests heard from the Principal, Michele Acton, who recently marked her first anniversary as Head of House, and from Sam Tolley (Zoology, 1987), President of the Alumni Association, which will celebrate its centenary in 2027.
Reflecting on the evening, Principal Michele Acton said, ‘We were delighted to see such a breadth of alumni returning to St Hugh’s, from recent graduates to those who matriculated as far back as 1956. It is so important that our alumni feel welcome at College and remain part of our community. Events such as this help sustain those connections and ensure that conversations with our alumni continue around the world.’
