The Lady Ademola Lecture

St Hugh’s Lady Ademola Lecture will take place online during Black History Month on Thursday 22 October at 1.00pm. This is an annual event held in honour of Kofoworola Ademola (née Moore) (1913–2002), who arrived at St Hugh’s College in 1932 to study English, and in 1935 became the first Black African woman to receive a degree from Oxford. Lady Ademola, as Kofoworola would become, was a lifelong advocate for women’s education and social reform.

This year, the online lecture will take place during Black History Month, providing a national opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the history, achievements, and lasting contributions of Black communities to British society and culture.

Our Guest Speaker, Professor Anthony G. Reddie, Director of the Centre for Black Theology at Oxford Regent’s Park College will discuss his journey from the Caribbean to Oxford in a lecture entitled:

“We are here because you were there. A Postcolonial reflection on a migration journey from the Caribbean to Oxford University.”

To register for the event please complete the registration form by clicking here. A link will be sent to you prior to the online lecture.
