Dr Maria Roca Lizarazu

Tutorial Fellow in German

Maria Roca Lizarazu joined the University of Oxford as Associate Professor in Modern German Culture in the Department of German and Dutch and Tutorial Fellow in German at St Hugh’s in Michalemas Term 2025. She specialises in 20th and 21st century German language, literature and culture. Her research focuses on German Jewish cultural production, cultural responses to post migration and citizenship, and artistic engagements with right-wing violence in contemporary Germany.

Before joining Oxford, Maria was Assistant Professor in German at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Girton College. She previously held postdoctoral fellowships at academic institutions in Ireland and the UK, including the University of Galway, the University of Birmingham, the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and the University of Warwick. She completed her PhD in German Studies at the University of Warwick.
