Professor McMahon launches 2021/22 lecture series with thought-provoking session

On 10 November 2021, we were delighted to welcome alumni, students, academics, staff and friends from across the world to our first online lecture for the whole St Hugh’s community of the 2021/22 academic year. Professor Michael McMahon, Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford and Senior Research Fellow at St Hugh’s College, delivered a fascinating yet sobering session on ‘Post-Lockdown Economic Challenges’, a follow up to his brilliant lecture on ‘Covid and the Economy’ back in July 2020.

How will different sectors readjust to a new normal? What will governments do to reduce their large deficits? Will inflation be persistent or transitory? Professor McMahon shared his thoughts on these and many other questions as he reflected on a wide range of challenges faced by economies across the world as they begin to re-open.

You can catch up on the recording of Professor McMahon’s lecture below.
