St Hugh’s College appoints Lady Simler as its Visitor

St Hugh’s is delighted to announce the appointment of Lady Ingrid Simler as the College’s Visitor. This role is given to an external figure of authority on whom the College can call for advice and for arbitration if insoluble dispute arises amongst its Governing Body.

Lady Simler said, ‘It is a particular honour and privilege for me to take up the appointment of Visitor at St Hugh’s College. First, because I step into the enormous shoes of the late Lord Simon Brown, whose career and judgments I have followed with admiration. I will try my best to fill them. Secondly, the fact that St Hugh’s was founded as a college for women, committed to levelling the playing field, and whose women alumnae continue to bring huge credit to the College, corresponds with my longstanding commitment to achieving better diversity, equality and inclusion in the legal world and elsewhere. The warmth of the reception I have already received from Fellows, staff and in particular,  Lady Angiolini, has been fantastic and I look forward to meeting students and other members of St Hugh’s in the future and to see it prosper as the centre of excellence that it undoubtedly is.’

St Hugh’s Principal, Lady Elish Angiolini, said, ‘We are honoured to welcome Lady Simler to St Hugh’s College as our Visitor. Her wealth of legal experience will be invaluable for the College, as well as her desire for greater diversity, equality and inclusion. The College’s Governing Body and I are very much looking forward to working with Lady Simler.’
