St Hugh’s College launches new Student Support Fund

At St Hugh’s College, we believe that exceptional academic potential should never be constrained by financial circumstances. Today, we are proud to announce the establishment of a comprehensive Student Financial Support Fund, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to making higher education accessible and supportive for all our students.

The new fund represents a strategic approach to student support, addressing two critical objectives. First, it provides direct financial assistance to students experiencing unexpected hardship, ensuring that no student is forced to compromise their education due to economic challenges. Second, it maintains affordable accommodation and dining costs, preserving the essential aspects of College life that define the St Hugh’s experience.

Our commitment to student support is already evident in our existing financial model. The College currently subsidises annual living costs by £1,700 for each undergraduate and £850 for each graduate student. We also receive additional resources for this purpose from a variety of external sources. The Student Financial Support Fund builds upon this foundation, creating a more robust safety net for our students.

This initiative goes beyond mere financial assistance. It is about maintaining the inclusive community that has always been at the heart of St Hugh’s. By reducing financial barriers, we enable students to focus entirely on their academic pursuits, their personal growth, and their future potential. The fund ensures that talented students from all backgrounds can fully participate in college life, from academic opportunities to social experiences like dining in Hall.

Alumni, supporters, and friends of St Hugh’s are encouraged to help us make a lasting difference in students’ lives. A contribution to the Student Financial Support Fund directly supports the next generation of scholars, researchers, and leaders. Together, we can ensure that St Hugh’s remains a place where exceptional students can truly thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances.

If you would like to make a donation to the new Student Support Fund you can do so as part of our Annual Appeal. We currently have a matched giving scheme available, made possible by a generous alumnus. We have up to £50,000 available which will be used to match pound for pound gifts made to this new fund.
