St Hugh’s Fellow awarded Senior Investigator award by National Institute for Health and Care Research

Congratulations to Professor Rafael Perera, St Hugh’s Fellow in Medical Statistics, who has been awarded a Senior Investigator award by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), for his outstanding leadership contribution to the work of the NIHR, acting as an ambassador and shaping research across social care, public health, and the NHS.

Each year, the NIHR funds Senior Investigators for four years, supporting their research while they take on a senior leadership role within NIHR. As NIHR Academy Members, they help develop research capacity, guide strategy, and work closely with NIHR and the Department of Health and Social Care to address key challenges in health and social care.

Professor Perera said, ‘I am delighted to have been given this award, which I hope to use to support some of the work in the NIHR-funded Programme that I am leading. The research project is called CoMPuTE, and looks at whether using artificial intelligence (AI) can help us predict those more likely to develop ‘multiple long-term conditions’ (MLTC) – to get help sooner to those who need it and prevent people from developing MLTC in the first place.’
