St Hugh’s Fellow provides expert comment on acquisition of the archive of French writer Albert Camus
St Hugh’s Tutorial Fellow in French and Professor of Literatures in French and Political Humanities at Oxford University, Ève Morisi, featured in the BBC World’s News Hour on Wednesday 8 July to provide expert comment on the National Library of France acquiring the archive of Albert Camus (1913-1960), laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957 and one of France’s most prominent writers and politically-committed intellectuals of the 20th century. It was bought for 9 million euros – the most expensive acquisition in the history of this institution.
Commenting on the acquisition Professor Morisi said, ‘This is a fantastic achievement as it will enable the general public to have access to a vast and diverse archive, including his works of fiction, correspondence, annotated political speeches and speeches about his art, as well as documentation that he gathered throughout his life.’
