St Hugh’s Sports Fellow wins gold at Rotary Cycling World Championships
Congratulations to St Hugh’s Sports Fellow Professor Horst Eidenmüller on winning the gold medal in the Senior Masters category at the 2026 Rotary Cycling World Championships, held in Kitzbühel, Austria, from 2–5 September.
The Championships brought together cyclists from 14 nations, with competitors ranging in age from 14 to 83. The event combined international cycling with Rotary’s wider commitment to friendship and service, with proceeds supporting regional, national and international social projects.
The World Championship was decided using a new race format, with riders’ times combined across two individual events: a 10 km time trial on a flat course and a demanding 4 km mountain time trial, involving around 320 metres of elevation gain. Horst recorded the fastest combined time in the Senior Masters category to take the World Championship title.
The sporting programme also included the formidable Kitzbüheler Horn climb, rising around 870 metres over seven kilometres, with gradients of up to 22.3 per cent. Horst finished fourth overall on the climb, across all age categories.
