Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

St Hugh’s College will consider appointing one or two new non-stipendiary Post-Doctoral Research Fellows per academic year. We welcome the opportunity to extend the many benefits of membership of our friendly and intellectually engaging community to early-career researchers who have secured funding but have no existing College affiliation.

There is no formal application deadline. Enquiries should be sent to the Senior Tutor (senior.tutor@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk) with an outline of your academic situation, a CV, and a copy of your application for the funding already secured (which should contain an outline of your research plans). References may be sought. The Senior Tutor is happy to discuss the process before documents are submitted.

The College is only able to consider expressions of interest for these positions from post-doctoral ECRs who (a) have already secured adequate funding for salary and costs from a reputable body (UK or international) that has conducted a competitive process, and (b) will be sponsored or hosted by an Oxford University Department or Faculty. Persons who already have permanent academic employment are not eligible.

Any election to a PDRF will be coterminous with the externally funded award, and may be full- or part-time. PDRFs with full-time funded awards will be entitled to all meals free of charge when the College kitchen is open (part-time pro-rata). Membership of the Senior Common Room will be offered at the standard modest rate. PDRFs will not be employees of St Hugh’s but will be subject to its policies and rules. No housing allowance or IT allowance will be payable but a research allowance may be offered if the funding secured does not provide an equivalent. PDRFs may be offered shared office space, and accommodation may be rented at the current standard rate if they are available, but we regret that neither can be guaranteed.
