Outstanding performance of St Hugh’s student recognised by Oxford University

Congratulations to St Hugh’s undergraduate student, Ruokai Zhao (Mathematics and Statistics, 2023) who has been awarded the Oxford University ‘Undergraduate Prize’ for Best Overall Performance in Part A Mathematics & Statistics 2024-2025. Prizes of £150 are awarded annually by the Examiners to undergraduate students to recognise outstanding performances in examinations.

St Hugh’s Principal, Lady Elish Angiolini, said, ‘We are extremely proud of Ruokai’s achievement- he has worked extremely hard to achieve this accolade. The Mathematics and Statistics course provides a fascinating combination of deep and mathematically well-grounded method-building and wide-ranging applied work with data; equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge required for jobs in a wide range of fields.’

Ruokai said, ‘I am truly surprised and deeply honoured to receive this prize. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to St Hugh’s College for their tremendous support, especially my personal tutor, James Martin and all my academic tutors. I’m also very thankful for the excellent courses offered by the Maths and Statistics Departments.’
