St Hugh’s Fellow and Philosopher asks the question: ‘Is it ok to eat meat?’

As the fourth in his series of interviews with children began, Professor Adrian Moore, Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy said, ‘People often ask me what a Philosopher is, and my favourite answer is: “A philosopher is someone who’s never grown up”. We like to ask the questions that children like to ask – above all the question “why”. This is a series of interviews with children about philosophical topics.’
In this thought-provoking video, Michael, the son of a St Hugh’s graduate student, takes on world-renowned philosopher Professor Adrian Moore in a debate about one of today’s most pressing ethical questions: is it OK to eat meat? Together, they explore the arguments for and against eating animals, touching on themes of animal rights, veganism, vegetarianism, and the ethics of food. Is eating meat a natural part of human life, or is it a moral issue we can no longer ignore?
In the video below, you can watch as a child’s perspective collides with philosophical wisdom in a unique conversation about food, ethics, and the future of our diet.
