George Garnett on BBC Sunday Politics

Professor George Garnett, Tutor in History at St Hugh’s College, has been interviewed about the Magna Carta for BBC Sunday Politics South. The interview, broadcast on Sunday 8 February 2015, is available to watch on BBC iPlayer (from 53:25).

Magna Carta, meaning ‘The Great Charter’, is one of the most famous documents in the world. Originally issued by King John of England as a practical solution to the political crisis he faced in 1215, Magna Carta established for the first time the principle that everybody, including the king, was subject to the law.

2015 sees the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta by King John.
