St Hugh’s Fellow elected a fellow of the Institute of Physics
Congratulations to St Hugh’s Fellow by Resolution in Physics, Dr Jack Miller (Physics, 2007), who has been elected a fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP). This internationally contested election is awarded to distinguished physicists in recognition of their accomplishments, and for their outstanding contribution to the profession. Dr Miller will serve on a committee of experts in medical physics. The IOP is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland, with an active role in promoting co-operation in physics around the world. It strives to make physics accessible to people from all backgrounds.
Dr Miller said, ‘I am hugely honoured to receive this accolade which recognises my work as a medical physicist on an international platform. I hope it will enable me to attract further research funding and, working closely with doctors, engineers, and all my other wonderful colleagues, to continue to utilise the transformative power of the physical sciences for the benefit of human healthcare,’
‘I have worked extensively trying to use physical techniques to measure, and mathematics to understand, metabolism – the set of biochemical reactions that energetically power life – which are altered profoundly in both health and disease (and by perhaps more every-day activities such as eating breakfast!).’ Read more about Dr Miller’s work here.
